BUREAU OF FOREIGN EMPLOYMENT

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment contracted RNA Architects to design multiple buildings on a single site in order to accomodate the training and housing of migrant workers and staff. The Land area was approx 4044.60 sqm with the completed project providing a total floor area of 6065 sq.m. The Development consist of a six storied Main Building (B1) including semi basement, 225 seated auditorium, Four storied Accommodation Building (B2) &Two storied Staff Accomodation Building (B3) together with external hardscaping and landscaping works.

The client requested a unique building to enable the migrant workers to familiarize them self with their foreign work environment which they would encounter. The form and shaping of the design was derived from this functional need. The migrant workers who are to be trained here need an environment/building which they would encounter abroad. Built environment which may look unfamiliar and alien to them now but through time would help them get acclimatized to and similar to the work environment abroad. Hence the design was derived from this function.

The Site

The site is at Hali Ela in Badulla district, abutting the Bandarewela Badulla main road and lies in close proximity to Hali Ela Central College, Paradeshiye Sabawa building & other local authorities. The environment is enriched with scenic beauty of surrounding greenery and range of mountains.

Architecture

This project received the “National Excellence Award” from CIDA in 2018 and RNA received the Certification of Appreciation from CIDA, recognizing the Architectural and the Quantity Surveying contributions made to the Project. Architectural, Engineering (Structural, Electrical, Mechanical), Quantity Surveying from Schematic Design, Detailed Design, Contract Documentation, Tendering and Contract Administration up to Completion and handing over.
